POULTER

Simon has an established a national profile both as an artist and curator. His present focus is on a series of paintings and online works documenting the ‘New Normal’. Simon makes work that records the post-truth and 'new normal' world. His work largely sits within the Swiftian tradition of humour and satire.

ArtBomb Project: Letters from England

Short spoken-word performances that describe what is happening in England. Jan and Albert are spoken word performances based on two fictional characters from Rochford in Essex. Both works tell the story of England and its capture by the Populist Right. At times they bring the listener up short, as things don’t quite work out or level up, as promised. Both works are for listening audiences.

Example: Letter from England.

Man who calls himself ‘PM' goes for poor optics, abandoning Doncaster for Kyiv. It's a strong message to the ‘Red Wall' Tory die hards up North. Wakefield voters take note, yer man with hair has his shirt hanging out.

ArtBomb is Doncaster's experimental arts festival & pop-up art space — designed to provoke debate across current environmental, mental health and ecological thinking — in collaboration with the Unitarian Church.
