ArtBomb Project: The Aerocene Backpack

Aerocene UK members Jol Thoms and Grace Pappas will teach ArtBomb participants ‘how to float ’ with the Aerocene Backpack. Aerocene is a worldwide community founded by renowned artist Tomás Saraceno. The Aerocene Backpack and its entailed aerosolar sculpture becomes airborne using only the powers of air and sunlight. Openly accessible to anyone, the process of launching an aerosolar sculpture into the sky is an unforgettable way to experience the Aerocene epoch. Unlike most airborne vessels, the Aerocene Backpack releases zero carbon emissions and uses zero fossil fuels. Aerocene is the future of air travel and habitation, utilising natural resources more sustainably.

As an ever growing research and experimental practice, Aerocene is open-source and collaborative. It consists of a dedicated and diverse global community of practitioners who collaborate to promote and enact environmental awareness and atmospheric sensing experiments, imagining new infrastructures of planetary mobility and ethics. By collaboratively developing, testing and launching aerosolar sculptures, Aerocene seeks to open up the imagination towards an emergent cloudscape, untethering a new era of planetary attunement, restoring the thermodynamic balance of the Earth, free from borders, free from fossil fuels. In Doncaster, wind and sun allowing, we will launch the first Aerocene flying sculpture in Yorkshire, at various locations. Come and join us and fly an Aerocene!

ArtBomb is Doncaster's experimental arts festival & pop-up art space — designed to provoke debate across current environmental, mental health and ecological thinking — in collaboration with the Unitarian Church.
