Ciara
O'ROURKE
Ciara O’Rourke is a working-class director, production designer and multidisciplinary artist born and bred in Doncaster, working across film, music video, installation, set-building and socially engaged practice.
Her work is rooted in texture, atmosphere and the emotional charge of objects, rooms and people too often treated as background scenery in their own lives. Over the past six years, she has built visually rich, emotionally precise worlds across award-winning films, music videos and immersive installations, often working from limited resources, found materials and the strange poetry of the everyday.
Ciara works with constraint as a creative language rather than a limitation, using it to shape intimacy, tension, humour and atmosphere. Her practice is drawn to the edges of things: precarious homes, overlooked rooms, broken furniture, improvised spaces, and the ways people survive inside systems that were not built with them in mind.
Whether directing, designing or building, Ciara’s work finds truth inside the fantasy. She is interested in interactive and participatory forms that allow people to feel seen without being exposed, and in creating spaces where marginalised voices can be held carefully, respectfully and with proper visual force.
