INARI

Yoshinari Nishiki (a.k.a. Inari Wishiki or just ‘Inari') is a Rotterdam-based Japanese artist. Inari is an advocate of “(un)making", a potential new general mode of production. He is currently conducting PhD research at NARA Institute of Science and Technology on how anyone can craft an “(un)made object" and assign to it an ecolabel, the “(un)made certificate".

ArtBomb Project: A Practical Guide to Opening A Fried Crayfish Business in Doncaster

Inari took up a residency in Doncaster (ArtBomb Festival 2022) to explore the possibility of opening a deep-fried invasive lobster business. While utilising a coracle made from ancient willow trees, his plan was to make a contingent food courier service both in terms of capture and delivery. In other words, customers won't know WHETHER IT'S CAUGHT and WHEN IT'S DELIVERED, yet they STILL HAVE TO PAY.

The invasive lobster that Inari seeks after is signal crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) which were introduced into the UK by the British Government in the 1970’s. This period coincides with the extinction of coracle fishermen.

ArtBomb is Doncaster's experimental arts festival & pop-up art space — designed to provoke debate across current environmental, mental health and ecological thinking — in collaboration with the Unitarian Church.
